BOULDER CREEK, Santa Cruz County — October 26, 2026. Two separate bridge replacements north of Boulder Creek will require full closures of Highway 9 on consecutive nights. Caltrans says the first closure is set for Monday, October 26, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. at San Lorenzo River Bridge, between Riverdale Boulevard and Monaco Lane.

The second closure is scheduled for Tuesday, October 27, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. at Kings Creek Bridge, between Pool Drive and Primavera/Old County Highway. Crews plan to place precast concrete box girders. These are two distinct construction sites with different start times; drivers should not treat the notices as a single permanent highway closure.

What the project means for the San Lorenzo Valley

Caltrans advises Highway 17 as a detour and warns nearby residents to expect overnight construction noise. Temporary traffic signals are scheduled to resume one-way control after each night’s full closure while the bridge replacements continue. The longer-term work aims to replace both bridges, not merely resurface pavement.

Drivers should check Caltrans QuickMap before leaving, particularly if traveling after dark. Source: Caltrans bridge-closure announcement. Local updates: Boulder Creek News.
