BOULDER CREEK NEWS | VERIFIED LOCAL REPORT • OCTOBER 2026
Caltrans undertook major work in 2026 to replace two Highway 9 bridges near Boulder Creek: Kings Creek Bridge and the San Lorenzo River Bridge. Temporary signals, alternating traffic and overnight closures have affected an important mountain-community route while crews construct new bridge structures.
What officials have documented
The agency’s project description identifies the San Lorenzo River crossing near post mile 13.6 and the Kings Creek crossing near post mile 15.5. The replacement structures are designed with 12-foot travel lanes and 8-foot outside shoulders. Caltrans announced temporary one-way reversing traffic in late April as signals were installed. A separate August notice described an overnight closure for setting approximately 100-foot precast bridge girders at Kings Creek.
Why the community should follow it
Residents use Highway 9 for daily travel, access to local services, deliveries and emergency routes. New bridges can address long-term structural and safety needs, but construction changes conditions from week to week. The April and August restrictions reported here are historical events, not assertions that the same closure is in effect today.
Next steps and local questions
Drivers should use current Caltrans travel advisories and QuickMap before making a trip, particularly during rain or construction. Boulder Creek News will continue to report announced phases, any new closures and final project milestones only from verified sources.
